Amazon FNSKU 2026: What It Is and Why You Need It

FNSKU explained: Amazon's FBA barcode, difference to SKU/ASIN/EAN, commingled vs labeled inventory.

    What Is an FNSKU?

FNSKU stands for Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit. It is a barcode that Amazon assigns to every product shipped via FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon). The FNSKU typically starts with an "X" and consists of 10 alphanumeric characters, for example: X0028HBCL7.

The critical point: the FNSKU links a product to your specific seller account. If three different sellers sell the same product via FBA, each seller has their own FNSKU for that product. Amazon warehouse workers can immediately identify which unit belongs to which seller by scanning the FNSKU.

This matters because Amazon stores thousands of identical products from different sellers in the same warehouse. Without unique attribution, Amazon would not know whose inventory to use for which order.

FNSKU vs. SKU vs. ASIN vs. EAN

You encounter four different product identifiers on Amazon. Each serves a different purpose:

    IdentifierAssigned byPurposeExample
FNSKUAmazonLinks FBA inventory to your seller accountX0028HBCL7
SKUYou (the seller)Your internal product numberMyProduct-001
    ASINAmazonIdentifies a product in Amazon's catalogB0CHNLG1WX
    EAN/UPCGS1International barcode standard4260123456789

SKU (Stock Keeping Unit): This is your own, freely chosen product number. You set it when creating a listing. It is only visible in your Seller Central and has no meaning outside your account.

ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number): Identifies a product in the Amazon catalog. All sellers offering the same product share the same ASIN.

EAN/UPC: The manufacturer barcode required to create a new product on Amazon. Purchased from GS1.

FNSKU: Amazon's internal FBA barcode that attributes your inventory to your seller account. Generated automatically by Amazon once you enroll a product in FBA.

When Do You Need an FNSKU?

You need an FNSKU whenever you ship products via FBA and use the "Labeled Inventory" (Amazon Barcode) option -- which is the default and recommended by Amazon.

The FNSKU is generated automatically when you enroll a product in FBA through Seller Central. You do not need to apply for it or pay for it.

The only exception is Stickerless Commingled Inventory (also called "Manufacturer Barcode"). With this option, Amazon uses the manufacturer barcode (EAN/UPC) instead of the FNSKU. This saves you from applying FNSKU labels, but carries significant risks (more on that below).

How to Find and Print Your FNSKU

    Finding Your FNSKU

    1. Open Seller Central
    2. Navigate to Inventory > Manage All Inventory
    3. Search for your product
    4. The FNSKU appears in the "FNSKU" column

Alternatively: Click "Edit" on a product and switch to the "Offer" tab. You will find the FNSKU under the FBA details.

    Printing FNSKU Labels

    1. Go to Inventory > Manage All Inventory
    2. Select the products you need labels for
    3. Click "Print Item Labels" from the dropdown menu
    4. Choose the label format (30 labels per sheet is the standard, compatible with Avery 5160)
    5. Open the generated PDF and print on adhesive labels

Important: The FNSKU labels must completely cover the manufacturer's original barcode. If the Amazon scanner in the warehouse reads the manufacturer barcode instead of the FNSKU, your product may be misattributed.

You can print labels yourself or have Amazon handle the labeling (FBA Label Service, approximately EUR 0.30 per unit).

    Commingled vs. Labeled Inventory

This is one of the most important decisions for FBA sellers, and many get it wrong.

    Labeled Inventory (FNSKU -- recommended)

With this option, every unit carries your FNSKU label. Amazon can always identify which unit belongs to you. When a customer orders your product, an item from your inventory is guaranteed to be shipped.

Advantages: - Clear attribution of your inventory - No risk from inferior products sent by other sellers - Full control over product quality and packaging

Disadvantage: - You must label every unit with FNSKU stickers (or pay Amazon to do it)

    Commingled Inventory (Manufacturer Barcode)

With this option, Amazon uses the manufacturer barcode. All units of the same product from different sellers are mixed together in the warehouse. When a customer orders, Amazon picks the nearest available unit -- regardless of which seller it came from.

The risk: If another seller sends counterfeit, damaged, or expired products under the same ASIN, those products can be shipped to your customer under your name. You receive the negative review, the return, and possibly an IP complaint -- even though the product was not yours.

Recommendation: Always use Labeled Inventory with FNSKU. The minimal extra effort of labeling protects you from substantial risks.

    FNSKU and Repricing for Pan-EU

When you sell across multiple European marketplaces with FBA (Pan-EU), the FNSKU takes on additional importance. Your product has the same FNSKU across all EU marketplaces because Amazon moves inventory within the European fulfillment network.

For your repricing, this means: prices on Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it, and Amazon.es can differ, but the inventory is shared. If your repricer prices more aggressively on one marketplace and sells more units there, it can reduce available stock on other marketplaces.

A capable repricer like arbytrage.io accounts for this with its Pan-EU Multiview feature. You see all marketplaces in a single view and can set strategies per marketplace while keeping total inventory in sight.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is the FNSKU the same across all Amazon marketplaces?

Yes, within the European fulfillment network, the FNSKU for a product is identical across all EU marketplaces. For Amazon.com (US), you have a separate FNSKU.

    Can I change the FNSKU?

No. The FNSKU is assigned by Amazon and is tied to the combination of your seller account and the ASIN. You cannot manually change it.

What happens if I apply the FNSKU label incorrectly?

If the FNSKU is not scannable or labels the wrong product, Amazon may reject the shipment or misattribute it in the warehouse. In the worst case, a customer receives the wrong product under your name.

    Does the FNSKU cost anything?

The FNSKU itself is free. If you have Amazon handle the labeling (FBA Label Service), it costs approximately EUR 0.30 per unit.
